No. 02The key

We grade the evidence. Never the person.

An allegation is not a finding, and a claim form is not a judgment. Every entry carries one grade saying how far its evidence goes — no further. Grades change when the record changes. They cannot be bought.

Read the evidence standards
A
Adjudicated
A court, regulator or other competent authority has reached a decision.
B
Proceeding
Proceedings, charges or a formal inquiry are live. Nothing is decided.
C
Documented allegation
Credible, named sources make the allegation. No authority has ruled.
D
Documented indicator
A verified fact or pattern worth knowing. It proves no wrongdoing on its own.
X
Cleared, Reversed or Resolved
Acquitted, dropped, overturned or settled without a finding. Kept on file, and marked.

No. 03Inside an entry

Nothing goes on file without a document behind it.

  1. I

    Status on every point

Each material point is marked as decided, live, alleged by a credible source, or a verified fact.

  2. II

    Claims stay claims

What someone says happened is never written up as what was proved.

  3. III

    Numbered sources

Citations name the document, who issued it and when. Follow [S-01], [S-02] down to the source list.

  4. IV

    A reply before we publish

People and companies named get the findings and fair time to answer. Material replies go on the entry.

No. 05Restricted research system

Meet Tracer.

Tracer is our in-house research system. It gathers identity, company, court, ownership and regulatory records on the people and businesses we document into a single view, so an investigator can test a lead quickly — and see plainly what the records do not show.

Access is limited to verified police and government staff and legal professionals. Every request is reviewed.

No. 06From tip to entry

Five stages before anything is printed.

  1. IStage one

    Research

Investigators work through open sources and public records — and make enquiries in person where that is justified — to establish who and what is involved.

  2. IIStage two

    Evidence file

Judgments, company filings, regulator material, interviews and other documents are collected, checked for authenticity and filed together.

  3. IIIStage three

    Legal review

Where a matter needs it, lawyers read the evidence and the proposed wording first — in England & Wales and in any other jurisdiction involved.

  4. IVStage four

    Editorial review

A writer works only from the verified file. Editors strike out anything the evidence cannot carry and check every grade.

  5. VStage five

    Publish & maintain

The entry goes live with its sources, grades and the subject's reply. New developments, corrections and evidence are added as they arrive.

What readers ask us

I.What is UK Scam?

UK Scam is a public-interest file on fraud and scams connected to the United Kingdom. It documents people, companies and legal matters using court judgments, regulator material, official filings and other sources a reader can check.

II.Does an entry mean someone is a scammer?

No. Being named is not a finding of guilt. Each entry states whether it concerns an allegation, live proceedings, regulatory action or a final decision, and is graded on that basis.

III.How is information checked before it goes live?

Entries are built from identifiable sources. The documents are reviewed, each material claim is checked against them, and the people named are asked to respond.

IV.Can someone named in an entry reply?

Yes — before publication and at any time afterwards. Relevant replies become part of the entry.

V.How do I get something corrected?

Tell us which statement you dispute and send the evidence or legal documents that show it is wrong. Valid corrections are made and logged under our corrections policy.

VI.Can anyone pay to have an entry removed?

No. We accept no payment, favour or other consideration to remove, hide or change an entry. Changes follow evidence, never money.
